Principal Dentist
BDS (BIRM) 1987. MSc Implant Dentistry
GDC No. 62663
Jon was born and educated in Birmingham,
graduating from the University of Birmingham in 1987 with honours and a
distinction in clinical dentistry. His MSc in implant dentistry was completed
at Warwick University, again with distinction, and he has been placing and
restoring dental implants for over 27 years.
Further post graduate training has included
visits to the Center for Continuing Dental Education Bern and the Malo Clinic
Lisbon. It was in Lisbon he first experienced the concept of immediate loading
of implants with provisional full arch bridges. This allows fixed provisional
teeth to be fitted the same day teeth are removed and implants placed.
All aspects of treatment are undertaken from
single tooth replacement to full arch rehabilitation but Jon's main area of
interest is in helping patients through the process of tooth loss to
rehabilitation with implant borne prosthesis. This process involves the
placement of multiple Straumann implants with or without immediate loading.
Followed by the construction of either implant retained over-dentures or fixed
crown and bridgework.
Jon is also experienced in all aspects of
Guided bone regeneration including sinus augmentation. These techniques are
routinely used to facilitate the placement of dental implants in sites with
inadequate bone volume.
The son of a dental technician Jon’s practice
is heavily reliant on new technologies and cadcam processes are utilized in the
restoration of dental implants. Whilst the surgical techniques learnt at the
Malo Clinic have been incorporated in to the Pro Arch concept for treating the
edentulous patient Jon’s delivery of the final prosthesis has evolved to offer
a wider range of treatment options.

Julian Smith’s career in dental technology has spanned over 30-years. During this time, he successfully built a commercial laboratory, with a solid reputation for providing prosthetic solutions for complex dentures cases with removable prosthetics, chrome cobalt frameworks and implant retained removable and fixed prosthodontics.
Furthermore, his breadth and depth of experience has developed through supporting the teaching and learning of post-graduate students in Birmingham, Manchester and Worcester. This has afforded him a unique set of skills and knowledge that enables him to support both clients and patients during the construction of challenging cases.
His own recent continuing professional development has seen him complete a Diploma in Clinical Dental Technology with the Royal College of Surgeons (England), in which he gained a distinction. He believes this training and education will allow him to provide even higher-level care for both his referral clients and patients alike.

During this time, he was involved in treating complex dental surgery, plastic facial surgery as well as treating broken jaw bones and head and neck cancers.
This experience now not only allows him to treat most surgeries ‘in house’ but the intimate knowledge of facial anatomy allows him to carry out facial aesthetics, such as anti-wrinkle treatments and dermal fillers.
Following on he has attended the world renowned Eastman Dental Institute in London, for his post-graduate qualification in restorative dentistry which allows for complicated full mouth rehabilitation to be treated as well as cosmetic smile make overs.
Soon after, he completed his dental implant training and now mentors several Dentists and receives referrals from multiple dental practices for implant treatment for their patients. His surgical rotations in the hospitals have also allowed him to place and treat complex implant cases.
His final postgraduate qualification is in Periodontology, where he has completed a Masters, at the University of Central Lancashire and is currently in the process of a publishing his distinction graded paper.
